The Herald-Tribune's new building at Sarasota,
widely acclaimed for its unique architectural and difficult
engineering feat, has won an Award of Excellence from
the Miami chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
The highlight of the building designed by the Miami-based
architectural firm Arquitectonica, was the roof-line that
was based on a complex geometrical pattern. Though this
was aesthetically stunning it created an engineering challenge
which was admirably met by TRC/Jenkins and Charland Engineering
Manager Jerome DiMercurio.
TRC used steel innovatively to facilitate construction,
expedite schedule and achieve the aesthetic vision of
the architect.
